Narrow defeat for youth team...

THE SADDLERS' youth team went down to a narrow 1-0 defeat at the hands of Hull City in The Football League Youth Alliance Cup.

"It was a competitive game between two good sides," said Academy Manager, Neil Woods. "We started well and hit the post through Amadou Bakayoko within the opening quarter-of-an-hour.

"After that, our visitors took a hold of the game for the remainder of the half and got their noses in front following a mix-up in our penalty area.

"We had a couple of breaks and Rico Henry in particular went close, but realistically Hull were the better side during the opening period.

"With the wind in our favour for the second half, I was a little disappointed with the number of chances that we created. I felt that we controlled possession but didn't hurt our opponents enough.

"It was a disappointing result in the end, but credit to Hull as they were just that little bit better than us all round."

WALSALL: Jones, Ashmore, Probert (Delaney), Kinsella, K. Rowley, Christopherou, McKenzie (R. Reid), Henry, Bakayoko, Rush, A. Reid (L. Rowley). Subs not used: Garner, Lovett.
