KEEPER GOES OUT ON LOAN

28 February 2014

Lewis links up with County for rest of the season...

EMERGING goalkeeper, Shane Lewis, has joined Stockport County on a youth loan for the remainder of the season.

The 19 year-old joined The Saddlers on the eve of the season having progressed through the youth ranks at West Bromwich Albion, during which time he earned International recognition from England at Under-17 level.

Having been a regular on the substitutes' bench this term, the move to Edgeley Park allows him the opportunity to play regular, competitive first-team football.

"The main thing is to get games under my belt," said Lewis. "This is a good opportunity for me to do that at a club with a good history who still get decent crowds.

"I'm looking forward to the challenge. I know that the level I will be playing at is very competitive and playing in it between now and the end of the season will stand me in good stead.

"I feel that I have really progressed since I have been here. Working with Neil Cutler [Goalkeeping Coach] has really pushed me on; the goalkeepers here are a close-knit group, we work hard in training and on the analysis side of the game, it's the full package and it has really helped us all.

"You can only improve in this kind of environment. Richard O'Donnell has done superbly well this season and I am pleased for him.

"From a personal point of view, I want to get as many games as I can under my belt and learn from the experience."

He stands by to make his County debut against Leamington on Saturday...
