WALSALL v SWINDON TOWN
THERE was wind and rain to greet this Boxing Day clash with high-flying Swindon Town.It was the visitors who took an early lead with the first raid on goal as Michael Smith found the net.
The Robins looked lively early on but at the other end, a marauding run down the left from Rico Henry saw the youngster force a corner which caused concern but the loose ball failed to drop for The Saddlers as the visitors were able to clear their lines.
Shortly afterwards, Paul Downing made an important clearance in front of goal.
A neat passage of play from Walsall ended with Adam Chambers winning a free-kick which was cleared at the near post.
Some more slick passing sees The Robins' rear-guard opened up on 18 minutes as Tom Bradshaw is on hand to stroke the ball home to make it 1-1.
Great control by Bradshaw sees him link up with Michael Cain to find Jordan Cook who fires over from the left-hand side of the area.
The visitors scramble the ball away from in front of goal as Sawyers heads the ball into the danger zone with Bradshaw and Cain loitering with intent.
A foul by Adam Chambers earned him a yellow card and a free-kick to the visitors which was fired into the defensive wall.
The Saddlers were looking the most likely side as the half came to a close. A foul on Adam Chambers gave Walsall a free-kick in a promising position in stoppage time. Anthony Forde stepped up and dragged his effort inches wide as the first half ended 1-1.
The visitors regained the lead just seconds after the restart when a Walsall corner broke down and the visitors capitalised to devastating effect.
A slip in defence as the snow started to fall heavily meant that the visitors were able to make it 3-1 through Andy Williams with 50 minutes on the clock.
The Saddlers just not coping with the conditions as Williams makes it 4-1.
With Mathieu Manset on for Bradshaw, Wes Foderingham in the home goal did well to deny The Saddlers.
In the end it was the weather that won the day as The Saddlers slumped to a 4-1 home reverse.
