Boss on dramatic shoot-out success...

THE SADDLERS progressed into the Northern Area Final of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy with a dramatic penalty shoot-out success at Tranmere Rovers.

Trailing 2-0 at the break, we got back on level terms in what was a thrilling Cup tie before winning 5-4 on penalties.

“I was calm all game,” smiled Saddlers’ boss, Dean Smith. “We started really well for the opening 20 minutes or so and to be honest I was shell-shocked to go in two goals down at the break.

“I said to the lads at half-time we could either accept it or do something about it. We were outstanding in the second half and there were some tired legs out there, but we deserved the shoot-out win.

“Its fine margins; our two goals were fantastic finishes and now we find ourselves just two games from Wembley, which is fantastic for everyone connected to this club.

“It would have been so easy to go under at two goals down, but the lads showed tremendous character out there and I am delighted for them.

“We will enjoy the success, but we have to put this on the back-burner for now and make sure that we are right for Saturday and another important game.”
