Reserves lose 1-0 at Wigan Athletic...

THE SADDLERS' reserve team have slipped to a 1-0 defeat at Wigan Athletic in the Final Third Development League West Division.

"We had the better of the chances in the first half," said reserve team manager, Richard O'Kelly. "We looked well-organised with everyone knowing their roles.

"Mathieu Manset went close whilst Kieron Morris caused our hosts plenty of problems when he got on the ball.

"The team shape was very good in the opening period, but we failed to reach these standards after the break and never really got going.

"Wigan included a lot of experience in their side and they stepped up a gear as we became somewhat disjointed.

"That said, it was a good lesson for us today and we'll hopefully take things on board from it.

"I felt that Craig MacGillivray did well and made some good saves, particularly in the second half, whilst Rico Henry did well and James O'Connor came through the full 90 minutes showing what a great professional he is."

The Saddlers fell to a single goal and had a 'goal' of our own disallowed.

WALSALL: MacGillivray, O'Connor, Henry, K. Rowley (Probert), Preston, Flanagan, Kinsella, Clifford (L. Rowley), Manset, Morris, Benning.
