SMITH ON PALACE DEFEAT

27 August 2014

Boss looks back at our Capital One Cup exit...

SADDLERS' boss, Dean Smith, has reflected upon our Capital One Cup exit at the hands of Premier League, Crystal Palace.

"I was disappointed with our performance in the first half and the manner in which we conceded the goals," he said. "We switched off for the first, gave the ball away for the second and their lad showed a bit of class for the third.

"We'll take it as a compliment that they sat behind the ball and looked to counter-attack us, but at the same time we've got to be able to take responsibility and find ways in which to trouble them.

"We spoke at half-time about the need for us to get crosses in behind them and win the second balls, and I felt that we did that, albeit too late.

"We've got to be able to get round teams and we didn't do it enough on this occasion.

"The one thing that I can say is that my players worked hard throughout the game. Crystal Palace are a Premier League outfit and their extra quality told in the end."
