Saddlers give a good account of ourselves at the Keele International Cup tournament...
THE WALSALL FC Academy took part in the Warrior Keele International Cup tournament last week for the second year in succession. It was an extremely productive week for our youngsters, with the Under-12s, 15s and 16s all winning their respective competitions.
“It was great that we were able to enter the tournament again this year and I would like to thank the club for their support in this,” said Head of Academy Coaching, Graham Biggs. “Our entire Academy took part, from the under-9s all the way through to the under-16s.
“It gave all of the boys the opportunity to get a taste of competitive, tournament football and experience different styles and systems of play.
“We came up against a host of different clubs from Academy Category 1 and also clubs from around the world, as far as Japan, Uganda, Kenya and the usual European teams.
“This in itself gave our youngsters a fantastic football education.
“The week finished on a high with a number of our teams reaching the Final of their respective competitions and the Under-12s, 15s and 16s all coming home with some silverware.
“Each player conducted themselves very well and represented the club in an extremely professional manner.
“I would like to thank them for that and also express my gratitude to the parents for their support in helping to transport the boys to and from the tournament and also the backing they gave to the boys in their games.
“The Academy coaches also deserve plenty of praise for their hard work in what was a long week with very long days!
“It was a highly successful tournament for us as a club and now we look forward to the start of the new season.”
