Smith on opening day draw...

SADDLERS’ boss, Dean Smith, has reflected upon our opening day draw at Port Vale.

“I was pleased to see us come from behind, pleased with a lot of our play and pleased to see Tom Bradshaw score on his debut,” he said. “I’m a tad disappointed that we didn’t come away from here with all three points because our performance overall warranted it.

“We had the majority of the possession in the first half and I was pleased with how we defended; we coped with everything that they threw at us but got caught out with a deflected cross.

“Our display after the break was really good. We moved the ball quicker than we had done in the first half and looked good at times.

“Ashley Grimes showed his class in and around the box; he’s a clever player with quick feet, whilst Tom Bradshaw did well.

“Overall I was pleased with the performance. It’s our first point on the board and gives us something to build upon.”
