Boss reflects on defeat at Vale...

SADDLERS’ boss, Dean Smith, has reflected upon our 1-0 defeat at Port Vale.

“We didn’t deserve to lose today and, by the same token, we didn’t do enough to win,” he said. “We went through the emotions and I am disappointed that in the end we have lost to a penalty which I felt was actually good defending by Paul Downing.

“There were some good passages of play from us during the course of the game and we created some decent chances, but we failed to capitalise upon them and it cost us.

“I felt that we started the second half well, but then the penalty decision went against us and in the end we had no control over the result.

“That said, we will keep battling on and start again on Monday ready for our next game.

“One of the bright spots to come out of the game was Amadou Bakayoko’s debut. He was bright and had a couple of chances. He’s a young lad learning the game and will benefit greatly from this experience.”
