KEEPING IT CLEAN

4 April 2014

O'Donnell in good form...

RICHARD O’Donnell has been a consistent last line of defence for The Saddlers this season and goes into Saturday’s trip to Port Vale looking to make it three clean sheets in a row after shut-outs against Bradford City and Shrewsbury Town.

“We have been solid as a defensive unit for the last four or five games now,” he said. “As a goalkeeper it’s good to keep clean sheets and I take great pride in them, but the most important thing from the last two games is that we have taken six points.

“Obviously it would be nice to keep another clean sheet on Saturday, but the main thing is to come away with another victory.

“Last weekend’s clean sheet against Shrewsbury was probably one of our best of the season because  we came under a bit of pressure near the end without them having many chances.

“We’re undefeated in five now and as such we have a bit of momentum going for the final weeks of the season. Hopefully this will stand us in good stead for the battles ahead.

“It’s about getting as many wins as we can and seeing where it takes us. We can only control our own performances and not what happens elsewhere.

“We’re looking forward to Saturday’s trip to Port Vale; it’s going to be a good game. We have both beaten each other this season and we are close in the League table, so it’s a big game.

“If we can maintain the performance levels that we have displayed over the past five games or so, we will be fine and give ourselves every chance of getting the points.”
