YOUNGSTERS ROCKED

Young Saddlers defeated by Blackpool...

THE SADDLERS' youth team were rocked with a 3-0 home defeat at the hands of Blackpool.

"We struggled to get a foot-hold in the game for the opening 35 minutes," admitted Academy Manager, Neil Woods. "Blackpool were a competitive and well-organised side who played at a high tempo.

"That said, the defeat was due as much to our own sub-standard performance than it was anything that our opponents did.

"We went a goal down to a free-kick and were second-best for much of the opening period, however, we started to get into it as half-time approached and created a couple of decent chances just before the break.

"We had a lot of possession in the opening exchanges of the second half without looking like scoring and were hit with a second goal from Blackpool.

"After that we became a bit ragged and ended up conceding a third goal.

"It was disappointing as we have worked hard on our organisation. We know that we have the ability within the side, but that is not effective unless it is accompanied with a work ethic and competitive edge.

"We have to learn from our mistakes and move on to the next game."

WALSALL: Jones, K. Rowley, Henry, Ashmore, Garner, Christopherou, McKenzie, Kinsella, Bakayoko, Rush, A. Reid. Subs not used: Delaney, Lovett, L. Rowley, Shakespeare, R. Reid.
