HEWITT OFF THE MARK

4 September 2013

Front-man on the goal trail...

TROY Hewitt opened his Saddlers’ scoring account with a sweet strike at Wolves with five minutes left on the clock to take our Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tie to penalties, which we ultimately lost.

“It was a difficult way to go out,” said the summer signing from QPR. “We did well in the second half and were pushing to win it towards the end.

“There were plenty of positives for us to take out of the game and also I was pleased to get off the mark with my first goal for the club.

“I concentrated on the ball as it came across and instinct told me where to hit it.

“There’s no denying that we finished the stronger of the two teams and had it gone into extra-time it would have been in our favour.

“We deserved to go through; we acquitted ourselves very well and now we must make sure that we can take this into the next game and be ready for it.

“There’s a buzz amongst the lads because we know what we are capable of. For me, I just want to work hard and take my chances when they come. I’m part of the team and hopefully I can earn myself a regular starting place and add to my goals tally.”
