EXTENDED DEAL FOR ROBERTS

6 September 2013

Up-and-coming 'keeper pens new contract...

HAVING signed a short-term contract during the summer, up-and-coming goalkeeper, Liam Roberts, has today penned a new deal until the end of the season.

It is a reward for the progress that the local youngster has made over the past few months.

“I am really proud of myself for getting this new deal so soon,” beamed the youth team product. “I feel that I have really improved in a short space of time and a lot of that is down to the work I have been doing with Neil Cutler [goalkeeping coach].

“There is a whole different tempo in the first-team compared to what I was used to in the youth team, but Neil is a great coach and has really helped me make the transition.

“Now I just want to keep working hard on all aspects of my game and push on.

“We have a Goalkeepers’ Union here with Richard O’Donnell and Shane Lewis where we help and support each other as much as we can.

“At the end of the day we are all after the same goals and we have built up a really good working relationship.

“In fact, the spirit throughout the squad is excellent and that is backed up by a really enthusiastic and knowledgeable backroom staff.”

The tall and rangy Roberts became a regular on the first-team bench towards the end of last term before signing his first professional contract in the summer.
