YOUNGSTERS BACK WITH A WIN

15 October 2013

Youth team run out 3-0 winners...

THE SADDLERS' youth team returned to action with a 3-0 home victory over Tranmere Rovers.

"We started the game very well for the opening quarter-of-an-hour," said Academy Manager, Neil Woods. "I was a little concerned that we hadn't played for a few weeks, but we took the lead on 25 minutes when a fantastic long-range strike from Amadou Bakayoko.

"We were able to double our advantage ten minutes later when Jamie Ashmore crossed well for Bakayoko to grab his second goal.

"We continued to play some decent football after that, but without the tempo and fluidity of our previous games. To be fair, we looked like a team that hadn't had a game for two weeks.

"The second half saw us battle well and Richard Jones was called upon to make a couple of smart saves.

"We struggled to move the ball and play with the freedom that I know we are capable of. You have to also give Tranmere credit for this because they worked hard.

"There were a few niggles that crept into the game as the half went on, but I was pleased with the way we stood up to this and eventually we started to play our football again before making it 3-0 through substitute, Levi Rowley.

"All in all we played some good football to get a deserved win, but we know that we can do better."

WALSALL: Jones, Ashmore, Henry (Probert), Kinsella, Dallison, Christopherou, Shakespeare (R. Reid), Delaney, Bakayoko, Rush, A. Reid (L. Rowley). Subs not used: K. Rowley, Garner.
