YOUNG SADDLERS MAKE CUP PROGRESS

24 October 2013

Deserved victory in the Birmingham Senior Cup...

THE SADDLERS made Birmingham Senior Cup progress as a youthful side ran out worthy 2-0 winners against Continental Star.

"We went with a very young side and played some bright football," said Academy Manager, Neil Woods. "We started the game well and worked hard, deservedly taking the lead on the half-hour mark when Kieron Morris did well to set up Wes Rush who made no mistake.

"The pitch didn't enable us to play with our usual fluidity, but we battled well against a well-organised mens team.

"I was pleased with our first half display but we played with even more purpose after the break and doubled our advantage when Luke Delaney played in the lively Morris who cut inside before applying the finish.

"Our boys showed a good mentality and it was an extremely worthwhile exercise for us. This is the reason why we enter these competitions as it gives our young lads valuable experience."

WALSALL: Lewis, George, Henry, Kinsella, Preston, Christopherou (Dallison), A. Reid (Shakespeare), Delaney (Ashmore), Bakayoko, Rush, Morris. Subs not used: Garner, Jones.

Meanwhile, first-year professional, Jake Heath, has extended his loan spell at Conference North outfit, Leamington.
