THE BUCK IS HERE!

19 October 2013

Saddlers Legend with us on Saturday to promote autobiography...

ALAN Buckley is a Walsall FC Legend. His 205 goals for the club in all competitions make him our all-time record goalscorer, whilst his return from Birmingham City in June 1979 remains the record transfer fee that we have paid for a player.

As well as this he also launched his successful managerial career, which saw him take charge of over 1,000 League games for his various clubs, with The Saddlers and was at the helm for one of the most memorable Cup runs in our history when we made it to the semi-final of the League Cup in 1983/84.

His story is a fascinating one and now you can read all about it with the launch of Alan Buckley: Pass and Move – My Story.

The book tells his entire story, from the battle to make the grade as a youngster at Nottingham Forest, to the goalscoring exploits and hero-worship here at Walsall and from transforming Grimsby Town in three spells as manager to less happy times at West Bromwich Albion.

It’s an absorbing journey through his life in the game. Frank, funny and evocative, Pass and Move is filled with tales about the great and the good from 45 years in professional football.

There have been highs and lows. ‘The Buck’ is amongst the finest players ever to grace The Saddlers, whilst the Grimsby Town faithful regard him as the greatest manager in their history.

“I found it easy putting the book together, to be honest,” admitted Buckley, who wrote the book in association with Paul Thundercliffe. “I have a good memory for the things I have done in football.

“It has really flowed and, even if I do say so myself, there are some smashing stories and anecdotes.

“I’d like think that any Walsall fan will find it a most interesting read as it gives the background story to some memorable moments in the club’s history.

“I still have a very special relationship with Saddlers’ supporters who watched me play and I will always look back upon my association with the club with nothing but happy memories.

“It’s weird, in a nice way, when I attend functions in this area to receive so much adulation from people who know as much about my life in football as I do!

“I’m looking forward to coming back to Walsall to promote the book and chat to supporters.”

This book is a must-read for Walsall supporters everywhere. Copies will be on sale at £18 each.

Alan Buckley will be signing copies of his book in The Saddlers Club before and after our next home game, against Stevenage on October 19th, and will also be on the pitch as part of the half-time entertainment.
