Youngsters overcome Altrincham challenge...

THE SADDLERS' youth team made progress in the FA Youth Cup with a 4-0 victory over Altrincham at a chilly Banks's Stadium.

"We went a goal up early on with an unfortunate own goal following some good play," said Academy Manager, Neil Woods. "We took control after that, with our passing and movement very good.

"We were able to add a second goal before the break when Wes Rush finished off another slick move.

"To be fair to our visitors, they stopped us playing in the opening exchanges of the second half, but we managed to get back into our stride and an inviting cross from Alex Reid was met by Amadou Bakayoko who made it 3-0.

"We completed the scoring with a free-kick from Wes Rush to earn our place in the next round.

"I felt that we played some lovely football at times and created some decent chances. It was a pleasing performance in what was an awkward tie, but I am delighted for the boys and now they have the chance to go to West Bromwich Albion in the next round and show what they can do.

"It's a nice reward and one that we will look forward to and prepare well for."

WALSALL: Jones, Ashmore, Henry, Kinsella, Christopherou, Dallison, McKenzie, Delaney, Bakayoko, Rush, A. Reid. Subs: Shakespeare, Lovett, Garner, L. Rowley, K. Rowley.
