McQuilkin on second-string hat-trick...

JAMES McQuilkin did his first-team claims the power of good with an impressive hat-trick in our 7-2 reserve team victory over Tranmere Rovers on Tuesday afternoon.

The summer signing opened the scoring early on and then notched his second towards the end of the opening period with a sweet strike from distance before completing his hat-trick from the penalty spot in the second half.

"It's always nice to score goals," he said after the game. "It was particularly pleasing to score a hat-trick.

"I was happy with my first two goals, especially the second, and then I've got Troy Hewitt to thank for winning the penalty and then allowing me to take it!

"Every day I try to do the right things in training and impress the Gaffer. Games like this are my opportunity to get out there and show what I can do in a game situation, so to play my part in a convincing win is good.

"I'm happy with the progress that I am making here. It's a very positive environment and credit for that has to go to the Gaffer and Richard O'Kelly.

"The style that they want us to play suits my game and I will be doing all that I can to break into the team. At the same time, you have to say what a good job the lads that are in the team are doing.

"That said, this is a team game and I have to be ready to step in and take my chance when it comes around."
