SPARKLING SADDLERS

5 November 2013

Youngsters make FA Youth Cup progress...

THE SADDLERS' youth team have made progress in the FA Youth Cup with a sparkling performance to beat Port Vale.

Neil Woods' side made an explosive start and went through with first half goals from Amadou Bakayoko and Carlton McKenzine to give us a 2-0 victory.

"I'm very pleased," beamed Academy Manager, Neil Woods. "It's a big occasion for the lads and they dealt with it well.

"The quality of our goals was good and we had control of the vast majority of the game, particularly in the first half. We maybe didn't flow as much after the break and didn't hurt our visitors as much in the final third, but we created chances throughout the game and my only criticism is that we didn't make the scoreline more comfortable.

"I was pleased we didn't concede; defensively as a team we were solid and the work-rate from everyone was excellent.

"It was a deserved win and now we look forward to the next round."

WALSALL: Jones, Ashmore, Henry, Kinsella, Dallison, Christopherou, McKenzie (Shakespear), Delaney, Bakayoko (L. Rowley), Rush, A. Reid. Subs not used: Lovett, Garner, Probert
