SMITH ON SET-BACK

Boss reflects on home reverse...

SADDLERS' boss, Dean Smith, has reflected upon our 2-0 home reverse at the hands of Port Vale.

"It was a disappointing result rather than performance," he said. "I felt that we controlled the game for long periods and had spells when we were camped in their half.

"After they scored the opening goal, it made it easier for them to sit back and then I was disappointed in the manner in which we conceded the second. We know that we have to defend better from set-pieces and got caught out by a long throw-in.

"Goals change games and our reaction to their opener was spot-on. I felt that we could have worked their 'keeper more, but we still have that belief in what we are doing and will keep the faith.

"It was a niggly game, to be fair; there were a lot of fouls and blocks and I am surprised that there was only one yellow card all afternoon.

"We've set our standards high this season and we know that we have to keep putting the performances in on a consistent basis in order to get the results that we all desire."
