Walsall Senior Cup win...

THE SADDLERS made it through to the next round of the Walsall Senior Cup with a 5-1 victory at Bilston Town.

"Our young side battled well against honest and hard-working opposition," said boss, Neil Woods. "We found ourselves a goal down early on with a deflected effort, but I was pleased with our reaction to that and the attitude displayed by the boys.

"We managed to level just past the quarter-hour mark when Keiron Morris found the net and then Danny Griffiths put us in front shortly afterwards. We went on to control the remainder of the first half, playing some good football.

"To their credit, Bilston came out and did well for the opening 20 minutes or so of the second period, putting us under some pressure. However, we stayed strong and defended well.

"We eventually got our reward when Griffiths made it 3-1 and this seemed to knock the stuffing out of our hosts.

"We made our fitness tell in the closing stages as Morris weighed in with his second before Alex Reid came off the bench to complete the scoring.

"I was pleased with our mentality, particularly in difficult conditions, and we came through the game well."

WALSALL: Lewis, George, Henry, Kinsella, Preston, Christopherou, Rush (Ashmore), Delaney (McKenzie), Bakayoko (A. Reid), Griffiths, Morris. Subs not used: Jones, Dallison.
