POSITIVE WEEK ENDS WITH WIN

26 November 2013

Youth team secure victory over Shrews...

THE SADDLERS' youth team ran out 1-0 winners against Shrewsbury Town.

"We started the game very brightly," said Academy Manager, Neil Woods. "It was clear that our tempo was not as bright as previous matches, which is understandable playing Thursday-Saturday.

"We used all of our squad and it was nice to see some of the lads step in and perform.

"Our opening goal eventually arrived when Wes Rush set up Carlton McKenzie who applied a neat finish.

"To be fair, we never really got going in the second half. There was plenty of effort and endeavour, but we lacked the sharpness and fizz of previous games.

"Richard Jones had to produce a couple of smart saves in the second half and in the end we hung on to get the victory.

"I was able to see another side to our game as the lads displayed character and really dug in to battle out the win.

"It was a winning climax to what has been a very positive week for us."

WALSALL: Jones, Ashmore, Probert, Kinsella, Garner, Christopherou, McKenzie (Delaney), K. Rowley, R. Reid, Rush (Bakayoko), Shakespeare (Henry). Subs not used: Lovett, Dallison.
