Midfield man on new deal...SAM MANTOM became the latest key player to commit his future to the club when he put pen-to-paper on a new two and-a-half year deal earlier today.
The talented midfielder has established himself in the heart of the team and has been in impressive form so far this term.
“I am delighted to sign this new deal,” said the former West Bromwich Albion youngster. “I feel that I deserve this extension and now I just want to knuckle down and continue playing well.
“The supporters want to see this club building for the future and having that continuity can only help us in that respect. Hopefully a few more lads will sign new deals in the weeks and months ahead.”
Having had a couple of previous successful loan spells at the club, Mantom was able to hit the ground running when he joined on a permanent basis at the turn of the year.
“As soon as I first set foot in here, I had a good feeling about the place,” he added. “It’s a good place in which to work and develop.
“Everyone gets on well; we are very focussed when we need to be but there is also great banter to help create a very positive working environment.
“I’m still quite young in the game, but I’ve got a few games under my belt now and I want to keep working hard so that I can continue to progress as a player and also help the club get to where it wants to be.
“I’d like to add more goals to my game and that is something that I am working on.”
The live Sky Sports cameras roll into Banks’s Stadium on Monday as we lock horns with Peterborough United, one of the fancied teams in League One.
“I can’t wait for Monday,” Mantom went on. “It’s been a slightly different week, but everyone is ready for it and relishing the chance to show a wider audience what we are capable of.
“We know that we face a massive test, but it is the opportunity to see where we are against quality players, most of whom should be in the level above.
“These are the sort of games that you want to be involved in and we are really looking forward to it.”
