Half-marathon for Hancocks to raise funds for Darlaston Town...

AFTER watching his first Walsall game as a 13 year-old a decade ago, Adam Hancocks, has become a regular at both home and away games and is a season-ticket holder in the Tile Choice Stand.

But whilst Adam spends his Saturday’s following The Saddlers, his father, George, is an ardent Darlaston Town supporter and watched the local non-League club each week until their sad demise at the end of last season when they were forced to pull out of the West Midlands (Regional) League.

Despite the chasm between the two clubs today, they have a great history together dating back to 1911/12 when both clubs plied their trade in the Birmingham League.

Over the years 31 players have played for both clubs including Saddlers’ legends Harry Wait, Tony Richards and Billy ‘Chopper’ Guttridge.
A group of Darlaston supporters are currently looking to raise £5,000 to get a Darlaston team up-and-running for the 2014/15 season. As part of the fund-raising activity, Adam is running a sponsored half-marathon on Saturday, with the 13-mile run ending here at Banks’s Stadium ahead of our game against Port Vale.

Adam, who is attempting his sixth half-marathon, says: "My dad is an ardent Darlaston fan and he has joined the new committee trying to raise £5,000 to get a club going again next season.

“I live in Darlaston and as a young boy he used to take me to watch them play. Whilst Walsall are my team now I still have a soft spot for Darlaston and I want to play my part in raising funds to get the new club back to winning ways next season.

“Basically I’m running for the football club that started my obsession with the game, and hopefully I can play a small part in the quest to bring football back to the Town.”

Anyone wishing to sponsor Adam can email or contact Neil Chambers on 07976 -752 698.
