CUP WIN FOR YOUNGSTERS

19 November 2013

Youth team overcome Chesterfield challenge...

THE SADDLERS' youth team beat Chesterfield 2-0 in The Football League Youth Alliance Cup.

"We started brightly," said Academy Manager, Neil Woods. "We moved the ball quickly and had good control of the game with a high possession rate.

"We deservedly took the lead with a fine solo goal from Jamie Ashmore who did well before applying a composed finish.

"I was pleased with the first half performance, but we struggled to get the same control early in the second period. You have to give some credit for this to our visitors who tried to stop us playing.

"The second goal eased the nerves slightly as Wes Rush fired home from a free-kick and in the end it was a comprehensive win.

"That said, I would like to see us make more use of the possession we have, but the boys can be pleased with this Cup win."

WALSALL: Jones, Ashmore, Henry, Kinsella, Christopherou, Dallison, McKenzie (L. Rowley), Delaney, Bakayoko (Probert), Rush, A. Reid (Shakespeare). Subs not used: Garner, K. Rowley.

Don't forget that the youth team are in FA Youth Cup second round action here at Banks's Stadium on Thursday evening as we take on Altrincham (kick-off 7.00pm). Admission is £5 (adults) and £3 (concessions).
