Youth team overcome Fleetwood challenge...

THE SADDLERS' youth team ran out worthy 2-0 winners against Fleetwood Town on a sunny Saturday.

"We never really got hold of the ball for long enough periods in the first half," admitted Academy Manager, Neil Woods. "We were loose when we didn't have possession and a couple of smart saves from Richard Jones kept us in it.

"The lads took on board what we told them during the interval and we started the second period much brighter.

"We got our noses in front five minutes into the second half when Amadou Bakayoko found the net and then shortly afterwards Danny Griffiths added a second.

"The game petered out again for us after that and, to be fair, it was a below-par display from the level that we have set ourselves this season.

"We made a few changes, but all of the lads are capable of coming in and doing a job. Yes, we won the match, but it's all about development and we have to be able to display the right work ethic to go alongside the football that we play."

WALSALL: R. Jones, Kinsella, Dallison, Preston, C. Williams, Reid (McKenzie), Heath, Flanagan, Hobbis, Bakayoko, Griffiths (Ashmore). Subs not used: Garner, Rush, Roberts.
