SMITH FULL OF PRAISE

Boss on latest home win...

SADDLERS’ boss, Dean Smith has reflected upon last night’s excellent victory over Tranmere Rovers as we extended our unbeaten home run to ten League games.

“We knew what to expect from Tranmere and they didn’t disappoint,” he said. “They are up there in the table on merit and started strongly.

“I felt that we played a little too much in front of them at first, but then we were more positive and stretched them.

“Then at 2-0 I thought that we saw the game out really well; the lads know how to win matches now.

“We are playing some really good football and the players are giving me everything. We’ve got momentum with us and I feel that we are a force to be reckoned with against any team that we come up against.

“That said, we don’t want to get ahead of ourselves. We have some tough games coming up but, as you would expect, the lads have plenty of belief and confidence in their own ability which will stand us in good stead for the battles that lie ahead.

“The team spirit and work ethic that we have here is superb. When Febian came off last night it was pleasing to see the substitutes giving him a round of applause. That togetherness has been in evidence throughout the season, even when things weren’t going out way.

“A lot of credit must also go to Jon Whitney  who works so hard in keeping the players fit and fresh. I always think that we finish games stronger than other teams and he must take the plaudits for this.”
