RESERVES WIN

13 March 2013

Second-string overcome youthful Vale...

THE SADDLERS' reserves were convincing 2-0 winners at Port Vale on a sunny but cold Wednesday afternoon in The Potteries.

"Against a young Vale side we took control of the game early on," said reserve boss, Neil Woods. "Our opening goal eventually came on 20 minutes when Omari Sterling-James found the net.

"We played some decent football for the remainder of the half but were unable to add to our lead as numerous chances came and went.

"It was a satisfying performance but after the break out standard of football fell below the standards that we had set ourselves.

"We made a few changes and the second goal arrived from Ben Purkiss with 78 minutes on the clock.

"The game petered out as our hosts offered little threat."

WALSALL: Grof (Roberts), George, Benning, B. Purkiss, Holden, Featherstone, Baxendale, Taundry (Hawker), Bowerman, Sterling-James (Flanagan), Hemmings. Subs not used: Griffiths, Heath.
