Reserves share the spoils with Tranmere...

THE SADDLERS' second-string shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw with Tranmere Rovers at the Birmingham County FA Ground.

The opening exchanges saw David Amoo head against the crossbar for the visitors, whilst at the other end, George Bowerman went close with a swooping header.

Some good defending by Dean Holden denied Amoo in the 12th minute as he looked to put a low ball into the danger zone.

With 20 minutes on the clock, Ashley Hemmings did well out wide and as his cross was half-cleared as far as Nicky Featherstone, his strike was tipped over by the 'keeper.

Neat control by Cole Stockton ended with him getting in an effort that Liam Roberts was equal to as the scores remained goalless.

As half-time approached, James Baxendale tried his luck from distance only for the 'keeper to claw the ball around the post.

During the break, Omari Sterling-James was introduced in place of Featherstone.

The Saddlers took the lead on 51 minutes when Hemmings swept home.

Roberts denied Jake Kirby as the visitors searched for an equaliser, but he was beaten by the same player on 65 minutes as a strike from distance escaped his grasp and ended up in the net.

Moments later, Stockton blazed over from a good position.

With Reece Flanagan and Danny Griffiths on for Josh Hawker and James Baxendale respectively, chances were few and far between as the clock ticked down with neither 'keeper being seriously tested.

In the end the game petered out into a 1-1 draw.

WALSALL: Roberts, George, Benning, B. Purkiss, Holden, Featherstone (Sterling-James), Baxendale (Griffiths), Hawker (Flanagan), Bowerman, Taundry, Hemmings. Subs not used: Preston, R. Jones.
