SPECIAL TIMES FOR SAM

18 June 2013

Mantom keen to make it a year to remember...

LOCAL lad, Sam Mantom, is looking forward to playing his part in our 125th Anniversary season.

The midfield man joined The Saddlers on a permanent basis at the turn of the year having impressed whilst on loan from West Bromwich Albion.

"I'm from this area so I have always followed the progress of Walsall," he said. "To represent the club in what is a very special season in its history is a big thing and hopefully we can make it a year to remember.

"We will be aiming to start well and then take each game as it comes from there. We're looking forward to the big games as we always seem to do well against the bigger teams, but there are certainly some mouth-watering fixtures to look out for.

"If we can pick up some early points and put a stamp on the League, it will give us something to build on. We'll set our objectives during pre-season, but the fact is that we're looking up rather than down now and there is no reason why we can't improve on our ninth place finish of last season.

"There is a real confidence amongst the lads that we can have a good season and be up there pushing for the play-offs. It's a strong League this year but we know that we are a good team with good management in place.

"We want to be able to hit the ground running and personally I will be working as hard as I can to show what I can do in what will be my first full season with the club."

There was a further boost for Mantom with the news that fellow midfielder, Adam Chambers, had agreed a new two-year deal.

"It's great news that the Chambers twins have signed up," he added. "They are good people to have around and have plenty of experience.

"Adam and I have built up a good understanding in the middle of the park. It's a partnership that has worked well; we know where each other is going to be and his advice can only help my game.

"I am delighted that both of them will be around for the season ahead."
