BUTLER RARING TO GO

Skipper on new kit and the season ahead...

WITH the new kit launched on Wednesday and the fixtures released next week, it can only mean one thing – the 2013/14 season is almost upon us!

Skipper, Andy Butler, can’t wait for the action to start again, but first he took time out to admire the new-look home and away kits.

The home kit fuses memorable moments from our past with a modern look-and-feel, whilst the navy blue away kit provides a smart alternative.

“Both kits look really impressive,” said Butler. “They have improved every year since I have been at the club and this is the best yet.

“They look smart and it’s a nice way to mark the club’s 125th Anniversary. I like the way that there is a retro feel as well as modern elements. It feels really good to wear.

“The saying is that if you look smart, you play smart, so hopefully that will be the case.”

It’s been a busy summer for Butler, but he is chomping at the bit to get back into action.

“I’ve been away for a couple of weeks plus there have also been a few weekend breaks and my daughter’s first Birthday, so it’s been nice,” he added. “I’m now at the stage where I’m starting to look forward to getting back into training and matches again.

“It’ll be nice to see the lads and get stuck into it. We’re a generally fit team anyway thanks to the maintenance programme that Jon Whitney gives us, so it will be a smooth transition back into the swing of things.

“Also the fact that we have more of a settled squad this year will be a big help. There won’t be that settling in process with loads of new faces coming in; everyone knows what each other is about.

“It’s a massive boost to have Richard O’Kelly back with us. He’s a brilliant signing for the club and works so well alongside the Gaffer.

“I’m feeling fit and raring to go now. The toe problem that kept me out of the final three games of last season has cleared up and I just want to be back out there again.

“The fixtures are out on June 19th and I’m really looking forward to seeing them and pushing towards a good season for the club.”
