Saddlers start at home...

THE 2013/14 fixtures were released earlier today with The Saddlers handed a home game on the opening day of the season against Tranmere Rovers.

“It’s a good start,” said manager, Dean Smith. “It’s nice to be at home on the opening day. Tranmere Rovers started last season really well and I have a lot of respect for the job that Ronnie Moore has done there.

“It will be a tough game, but one that we are really looking forward to.

“Our first away game sees us travel to an Oldham Athletic side under the guidance of Lee Johnson, so that will be another test for us.

“The festive period sees us face two tricky away games at Bristol City and Gillingham before playing host to a Sheffield United side, who are sure to be up there challenging again, on New Year’s Day.

“Hopefully we’ll be in a good position and go into those games full of confidence.

“It’s nice to finish the season with a home game. We’ve not had that at the end of the three seasons that I have been at the helm. It makes a change and I would like to think that we will be celebrating come May 3rd!

“There are some interesting games, to be fair. We have a number of local derbies against the likes of Wolves, Port Vale, Shrewsbury, Coventry and Notts County, so there is plenty to look forward to.

“We’ll give everyone the respect that they deserve but will be determined to make a positive start and build from there.”
