WOODS HAPPY WITH COMMITMENT

11 July 2013

Academy Manager on victory at Halesowen...

NEIL Woods was pleased with the commitment displayed by his young side as The Saddlers came from behind to beat Halesowen Town.

The team was made up mainly of youth team players with several trialists, including former loanee, Romaine Sawyers, and also Craig Westcarr.

"On a tough surface, I was very pleased with the attitude and commitment displayed by our lads," he said. "For some of them it was their first action of the pre-season and the fitness levels allied to their endeavour meant that we got what we wanted out of the game.

"We played some good football in the opening period, prompted by Romaine Sawyers, and we created chances which we were unable to finish.

"Credit to our hosts as they were competitive but fair and the game was played in the right spirit. They came out for the second half and took the lead early on.

"It didn't take long for us to get back onto level terms before Wes Rush scored what proved to be the winner.

"In the end both teams got what they wanted out of the game."
