SMITH PLEASED

17 July 2013

Boss delighted with latest performance...

SADDLERS' boss, Dean Smith was a happy man after seeing his side play some attractive football on our way to a 6-0 pre-season friendly victory at Alfreton Town.

On a superb surface that was a credit to the Conference Premier club, goals from Romaine Sawyers, new loan capture, Milan Lalkovic, Ashley Hemmings, a brace from Craig Westcarr and a last-gasp effort from new signing, Troy Hewitt, gave us a convincing win.

"We had a lot of possession during the first half and once we got our noses in front, there was no looking back," said Smith. "Some of the football that we played was really good and we scored some excellent goals.

"The players are getting better and better and really are a pleasure to work with.

"We have plenty of competition for places, which is healthy  and just what we want. The players have really rolled their sleeves up and are doing the right things.

"We want them to go out there and express themselves and we are giving them a platform to be able to do that."

A Development Squad consisting of under-21 players head to Rushall Olympic this evening. We encourage as many of you as possible to get along to Dales Lane.

Meanwhile we return to Banks's Stadium action on Saturday with the visit of Leeds United (kick-off 3.00pm).
