Mantom takes the positives...

SAM MANTOM found the net with a sweet strike in Tuesday evening's pre-season friendly clash with Nottingham Forest as The Saddlers put in another performance full of positives.

"The Gaffer was delighted with how we performed," said Mantom. "They had to change their shape during the first half because of what we were doing to them, so we can only take the positives out of that.

"They have some quality players in their squad, but we came off at the end happy with the way in which we acquitted ourselves.

"I was pleased with the goal; I actually had a dream a couple of nights ago that I hit a strike very similar to that but on that occasion it hit the post!

"Hopefully I can build upon that and get a few more goals to my name this season."

The midfield man has been impressed with the way in which we have matched up to Championship outfits Leeds United and Nottingham Forest over the past week.

"We've played really well in both games," he added. "We deserved to beat Leeds and deserved to get a draw with Forest. We can be really pleased with our efforts, as I say, we acquitted ourselves well and it gives us something to take into the new season.

"As a team we look decent going forward and solid at the back; the new lads have slotted well into the system and shown what they can do.

"It's all looking promising for the campaign ahead."
