Smith delight at performance...
THERE were plenty of positives for Saddlers' boss, Dean Smith, to take out of our 1-0 pre-season victory over Leeds United.
"Whilst it was nice to get the victory, the main thing was the performance levels and being able to do things the right way," he said. "There were some good displays both individually and collectively and some of the football that we played was a joy to watch. We also scored a well-worked goal.
"Our reaction to losing the ball was pleasing; we have worked hard on being in control of the game when we’ve not got the ball and the fruits of our labours were there for all to see, as were the fitness and energy levels.
"The new lads have settled in straight away and I have been delighted with the contribution each of them has made. We have been careful to bring in the right characters and have done plenty of homework on the new recruits.
"We’re still looking at strengthening one or two areas, but I am generally pleased with the squad that we have assembled.
"They will face another stern examination on Tuesday evening against Nottingham Forest, another big club who I expect to be up there challenging for a place in the Premier League."
