Boss on clash at Burton Albion...

THE SADDLERS went down to a 1-0 defeat at Burton Albion, but it proved to be another good work-out as we prepare for the start of the new season next weekend.

Manager, Dean Smith took a squad of 15 to the Pirelli Stadium, with another squad of 15 taking on a Nottingham Forest Under-21 side in a behind-closed-doors clash on Saturday.

"It was what we needed," said Smith. "It was a physical work-out and a good test all-round for us.

"The plan is to get 90 minutes into as many of the lads as we can over these two days, so those players that weren't involved on Friday will play against Forest.

"I felt that we were a bit dull in the first half; we were not as bright as we have been but we moved the ball around a lot better after the break and it was also nice for the younger lads to get some pitch time with the seniors.

"It's all part of the learning process for us."
