Saddlers take on Aston Villa in 125th Anniversary Match on Wednesday...
OUR FINAL home pre-season friendly takes place on Wednesday as we entertain Aston Villa in our 125th Anniversary Match (kick-off 7.30pm).Villa were our very first opponents back in April 1888 and they will be here to help us celebrate 125 years of Walsall FC as our pre-season preparations come to an end.
We’ll have a special souvenir edition of the Matchday Programme on sale in and around the stadium at £3, which will be packed full of features from our colourful past and exciting future, whilst a whole host of former players and managers will be in attendance to make it a real occasion.
Tommy Coakley, Chris Nicholl and Ray Graydon, three promotion-winning managers, will be with us as guests of the club and Walsall FC Football Supporters Trust.
They will be joined by former players Albert McPherson, Jimmy McMorran, Jimmy McEwan Stan Jones, Mick Evans, Ken Hodgkisson, George Meek, Keith Ball, Andy Reece, Jack Bridgett, George Dean, Alan Roper, Alec Jackson Ian Roper and Kenny Mower.
We’ll also have a number of special guests. Robin Alsop is the son of one of our greatest-ever players, Gilbert Alsop, Joan Richards is the widow of Saddlers’ legend, Tony Richards and Annie Allman is the widow of one of the most prolific writers and historians of Walsall FC, Geoff Allman.
In the build-up to kick-off, Ray Graydon will be appearing in the Bescot Bar at around 7.00pm to chat to fans after unveiling the new 125 plaque alongside Mick Kearns near the Main Reception of the stadium at 6.30pm.
All of our guests will be appearing on the pitch as part of the half-time entertainment.
The Saddlers’ players will be led onto the pitch by a team of mascots for what is sure to be an exciting and nostalgic evening here at Banks’s Stadium.
