UPDATE FROM BRITISH TRANSPORT POLICE

15 January 2013

One man arrested and another questioned on Portsmouth fan assault...

WE CAN report that one man has been arrested and another questioned following an alleged assault on a Portsmouth supporter at Walsall railway station shortly after our game earlier this month.

“Following an appeal for information after a 56 year-old man suffered a broken jaw after allegedly being assaulted by a group of men at Walsall railway station on Friday, 4 January, I can confirm that a 25 year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm," said a British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman. "The man, who is from Walsall, has been released on police bail until Monday, 25 February, pending further enquiries.

“Officers from BTP would like to thank members of the public and the media for their assistance during the investigation into the assault which took place at about 10.15pm on Friday, 4 January, following Walsall FC’s home match against Portsmouth FC.”

Anyone with any information which may assist the investigation is urged to contact British Transport Police on Freefone 0800 40 50 40, or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Walsall FC will ban for life from Banks's Stadium anyone found guilty of this assault.
