Full-back on winning display...

BEN PURKISS played his part in an impressive victory at Preston as we made it five wins out of the last six games.

"It was a really good away performance," he said. "I felt that we were in control throughout the game and although we didn't have as much of the ball as we would have liked early on, we broke well and caused them problems.

"As soon as we opened the scoring, they went and it was good to be able to add a second before the break. We spoke at half-time about continuing to do the right things and being able to see the game through, which we did."

Purkiss was full of praise for goalkeeper, Ian McLoughlin who was signed on loan in the build-up to the game. "He came in and did well," he added. "Everyone was disappointed to see Karl go, but the young lad came in and made a couple of excellent saves at crucial times, which is what you want your 'keeper to do.

"He can be pleased with his performance, as can the rest of the team. It's been a positive start to the new year and now we can't wait for the next challenge to come along."

That next challenge sees an in-form AFC Bournemouth arrive at Banks's Stadium on Saturday.

"They are in good form, but so are well," Purkiss went on. "They will be a different proposition to what they were at their place earlier in the season. Eddie Howe has returned to the club and is getting the best out of them, so it will be a tough test.

"But we are playing with confidence and are in a position where we can go out and express ourselves and win matches."
