Saddlers agree compensation package with Championship club...

WALSALL Football Club has today agreed a compensation package with Bristol City for the services of Richard O’Kelly.

The 56 year-old will link-up once more with Sean O’Driscoll at The Championship outfit in the role of First-Team Coach.

Former Saddlers’ striker O’Kelly formed a successful partnership with O’Driscoll at both AFC Bournemouth and Doncaster Rovers before arriving at Banks’s Stadium during the course of last season as part of Dean Smith’s coaching staff.

He left the club to take over the reins at Hereford United but was lured back to The Saddlers as assistant manager during the summer.

“Despite our best efforts to keep him here, it was evident that the opportunity to work in The Championship and alongside Sean O’Driscoll was too good for Richard to turn down,” said Chief Executive, Stefan Gamble. “Therefore, after lengthy discussions, it was felt that it was in the best interests of all concerned to allow Richard to take up this new challenge.

“We thank him most sincerely for his services to the club and wish him well in the future.

“The process of finding a successor has now begun and the compensation that we have received will be made available to the manager to fill the position and also strengthen the squad.”
