League Cup progress for youngsters...

THE SADDLERS' youth team breezed into the Area Final of The Football League Youth Alliance Cup as we came from behind to win 7-2 at Notts County.

"We started the game by playing some good football," said Academy Manager, Neil Woods. "We looked in control but fell behind after ten minutes.

"Credit to the lads, they continued doing the right things and had lots of possession without hurting them enough.

"With ten minutes to go until half-time, Danny Griffiths did well to set up Jacob Hobbis who levelled the scores and that is how it stayed going into the interval.

"We deserved more from the opening period, to be fair, but we tinkered with a few things and for the opening 25 minutes of the second half we played some of our best attacking football of the season.

"During this time Danny Griffiths was able to grab a hat-trick and Hobbis notched his second to really put us in the driving seat.

"Every time we went forward we looked as though we could score and it was nice to see Amadou Bakayoko come off the bench to score his second goal of the week before Jake Heath added his name to the scoresheet.

"The game ended in a 7-2 win. Obviously I was delighted with the victory, it was fully deserved and the attitude of the players really impressed me."

The victory has handed us an away tie at Carlisle United in the Area Final on a date to be agreed.

WALSALL: Roberts, Sinton, Henry (C. Williams), Flanagan, Christopherou, Preston, Hobbis, Heath, Griffiths (Kinsella), Rush (Bakayoko), Reid. Subs not used: Dallison, R. Jones.
