Saddlers bring home the points from Accrington...

THE SADDLERS' youth team came home from Accrington Stanley with a 3-2 victory in a game whereby we should have been out of sight.

"We started the game in a positive fashion," said Academy Manager, Neil Woods. "We took the lead within the opening two minutes when Reece Flanagan played in Alex Reid and he applied the finish.

"On a very firm pitch due to the frost, we took control of the game and doubled our advantage before half-time when Jacob Hobbis and Danny Griffiths combined well for the former to fire home.

"It didn't take long into the second period before we went 3-0 up as Wes Rush added his name to the scoresheet.

"We were playing at a really good tempo with fluidity at this stage and were comfortable until we conceded a penalty that allowed our hosts to get back into it.

"I was disappointed with our reaction to that and an individual mistake saw us concede another.

"It meant that we were left to hang on in a game that we should have been comfortable in. People will make mistakes, I accept that, but you have to react to them in a positive way.

"We fell below the standards we have set ourselves here, but we will look upon this as part of our learning curve and be stronger for it."

WALSALL: R. Jones, Sinton, Williams, Flanagan (Ashmore), Dallison, Christopherou, Hobbis, Heath (Kinsella), Griffiths, Rush, Reid (Bakayoko). Subs not used: McKenzine, Roberts.
