Lalkovic on a high...

LOAN star, Milan Lalkovic put in a Man of the Match display and also weighed in with a stunning goal as we beat Carlisle United 2-0 in our pre-Christmas clash here at Banks's Stadium.

The 21 year-old notched his fourth goal of the season following his summer switch from Chelsea.

"It was a good three points against a side who were on a decent run," said the Slovak. "We knew that they would be at us, but we did well and we know that if we're at it, we can beat anyone in this League.

"It was nice to score and it seems that every time Rom [Romaine Sawyers] scores, I do too. It was a great ball from Sam Mantom and as I looked up I saw Rom and Troy Hewitt but decided to do a step-over and try to curl it inside the far post.

"Thankfully it came off and I was happy to see the ball go in.

"We must also give credit to the defence for keeping a clean sheet. If you keep clean sheets then you are always in the game. We are doing well as a team in all areas and supporting each other."

This will be the first time that Lalkovic has experienced the demands of a festive schedule, with the matches coming thick and fast and continuing on Boxing Day with a trip to Bristol City.

"This will be my first Christmas playing so many games," he added. "It is not a problem for me as this is what I am paid to do and what I enjoy.

"There are plenty of points up for grabs and I look forward to playing, so whilst it will be a bit different to what I am used to, I am looking forward to it."

The New Year sees his initial loan deal come to an end, but he is hoping to extend it.

"I know that I can keep improving here," he added without hesitation. "The Gaffer and Richard O'Kelly are really helping me to develop and I would like to stay longer."
