SMITH ON SET-BACK

31 August 2013

Boss reflects on home defeat...

SADDLERS' boss, Dean Smith, was in reflective mood as we tasted home defeat in the League for the first time since November with a 3-0 set-back at the hands of Preston North End.

"It was very disappointing," he said. "The performance was very poor and, to be honest, I didn't see it coming.

"We gave away soft goals and were never good enough on the ball; we didn't pass it with any purpose or tempo.

"You have to give credit to the opposition; they came here and defended resolutely, but individually and collectively we were nowhere near where we can be.

"You make decisions for the right reasons but they didn't work out today and we'll go away and reflect upon them. Mistakes happen but it's how you react and learn from them.

"We have a quick chance to bounce back at Wolves on Tuesday; it's a tough game but it's a local derby and one that we face with relish."
