Sawyers marks first start of the season with first goal...

ROMAINE Sawyers came into The Saddlers' starting line-up at the weekend and marked his first start of the season with a sweetly-taken goal.

"It was good to get my first goal but unfortunate that we couldn't win the game," he said. "I was pleased with my individual achievement but I would have changed it for a team victory.

"I feel that I played well; I got into it as the game went on and tried to make things happen.

"This is a team sport and as the team has been winning, I have had to wait for my chance, but hopefully I have shown what I can do. My versatility is a plus for me as if offers more windows of opportunity for me to get into the team.

"There are four different roles that I can play in and I am happy to do what the Gaffer asks of me.

"We had a positive pre-season and have taken it into the start of the new season; we're looking organised at the back whilst also creating chances and looking lively up front. If we can do this consistently, we'll be up there challenging."
