Smith on our impressive display at Stoke...

SADDLERS’ boss, Dean Smith, was proud of the performance his team put in as we went out of the Capital One Cup at Stoke City.

“I’m really proud of the lads,” he said. “They gave it a good go and the effort that they put in can’t be faulted.

“We gave them the first goal; it was sloppy play and then I felt that there was a foul on James Chambers in the build-up to the corner which led to their second.

“We could have easily folded after that, particularly against such quality opposition, but we put in a positive second half performance which gave them a scare and stretched them.

“Some of our play was outstanding. It was a great move for our goal and this display will give us plenty of belief.

“Credit to the players, they gave a good account of themselves and now we must kick on from here on Saturday.”
