YOUNGSTERS END AGAINST LATICS

Youth team slip against Oldham...

THE SADDLERS' youth team played their final League game against Oldham Athletic just 14 hours after lifting the Midland Youth Cup with an extra-time victory over Notts County.

As such the team was made up mainly of players from the under-16s.

"We had to go with a very young side," said Head of Academy Coaching, Graham Biggs. "We started the game quite brightly as we looked to get into our stride and play our usual passing football.

"Our hosts rarely threatened, but in one of their first raids they hit the post, which acted as a warning sign to us.

"We continued to press as the opening period went on but got caught out as Oldham hit us on the break to take a one-goal lead into the interval.

"The lads refused to let their heads drop and we came out well at the start of the second half. Our visitors put men behind the ball and made life difficult for us.

"We pushed, but it was to no avail as we failed to find a way through and then Oldham added a second goal with another break-away goal.

"In the end we lost 2-0 which was a disappointing way to end what has been an excellent season for us."

WALSALL: R. Jones, Sinton, C. Williams, Probert, Garner, Kinsella, Harrison (Reid), Ashmore, Bakayoko (Shakespear), McKenzie (L. Rowley), Rush. Subs not used: K. Rowley, Lovett.
