RESERVES BEAT SHREWS

11 April 2013

Victory for second-string...

THE SADDLERS' reserve team ran out worthy 2-0 winners at Shrewsbury Town in our second Central League fixture in as many days.

"In strong winds and on a lively pitch, we passed the ball around well," said reserve team manager, Neil Woods. "We took the lead on the half-hour mark when Jake Jones did well to work his way into the penalty area before being brought down. He stepped up and converted the spot-kick to give us a deserved lead.

"We dominated the opening period but only had one goal to show for our efforts at the break.

"Our second goal arrived early in the second half when Liam Kinsella did well out wide and his cross was met by the head of Aaron Williams who made no mistake.

"It was a question at this stage of how many more goals we would go on to score, but it ended 2-0 and a deserved victory.

"We fielded a young side, but the fluency and type of football that we are now seeing at all levels of the club was very much in evidence and that is pleasing to see."

WALSALL: Roberts, Kinsella, George, Dallison, C. Williams, Hobbis, Sinton, Hawker (Reid), J. Jones, Sterling-James (McKenzie), A. Williams. Subs not used: R. Jones, Ashmore, Bakayoko.
