HONOURS EVEN FOR RESERVES

2 April 2013

Second-string share the spoils...

THE SADDLERS' reserves played out a 1-1 draw at Oldham Athletic.

"It was a bright game of football," said boss, Neil Woods. "Both sides looked lively, but I felt that we were the better team for the opening 30 minutes or so.

"We lacked the goal that we deserved during this period and our hosts broke away to take the lead against the run of play to go in at the interval in front.

"The second half saw us bright and we were deservedly back on level terms with 20 minutes to go when Richard Taundry's free-kick found the back of the net.

"There was plenty of enthusiasm and endeavour from our lads with the experienced heads showing a good attitude. The only disappointment was that we couldn't go on and get the win.

"There were plenty of positives to come out of the game with a number of lads getting a much-needed 90 minutes of action under their belts as we prepare for the run-in to the end of the season.

"I was pleased with the way that we went about our business."

WALSALL: Belshaw, Purkiss, George, Holden, Benning, Taundry, Hawker, Featherstone, Hemmings, Sawyers (Sterling-James), Bowerman. Subs not used: Ashmore, McKenzie, Garner, R. Jones.
